I’m Steven, but people in the rave scene and fandom know me as ‘Cosmo Coyote’.  I started raving in 2010 before I got interested in furries, and really fell in love with the music and culture.  It opened my mind and led me to find furry fandom in 2011.  On Youtube, I came across furries and the fursuit dance videos were cool. It seemed fun to dress up as the animal you love, and get in character to make people smile and give off good energy to everyone.

Around 2011, I joined a promotion team for a local rave crew who threw underground events around the Stockton/Lodi/Central Valley area. I worked for them for about 4 months then moved to a new company that actually threw permitted events.

I got my foot in the door about knowing marketing, productions, promotion etc. I gained experience by attending around 8-10 raves a month to connect with others. I tended to connect with DJs because I loved the music so much. I bought a system and learned to mix and DJ in my room the traditional way meaning no laptops or cheat button. Just CD and USB and learning to mix by ear.

In 2013 I started DJing and playing events such as EPR and Frolic. My first event I threw in 2013 was called Night Lights. It was a semi permitted UG (underground) although at 2AM we got shut down.

In 2014 I met some awesome people who had a permitted venue, and I’ve done 4 events without an issue there. It’s where Tailwhipped will be held. I’m sure many furs that attend will be happy with the huge open space outdoors for smoking, poi, and socializing, the fact it’s all ages, the lounge cool off area and rooms were people can change into suit. They have clean restrooms and that’s just the start.

A lot of people don’t realize the work that goes into these shows: from promotion, budgeting and preparation to handling the event itself the day of.  Sometimes it’s more than what I can handle. I hire volunteers willing to help and be part of it. For production I usually hire local crews to do lighting or sound.

For Tailwhipped, my good friend Scoobert (Adam Joshua) will do deco and lighting. His company is Top Dawg. He’s a furry and the company is furry related.

For crowd, expect furries and ravers combined. Ravers are open minded and love when furries come out to events. It’s sad they don’t come to raves more often! It’s an open and positive environment.  Every time I’ve brought my suit to a non furry rave I always get a hug or a picture taken. People who are new to furries or don’t understand it love it. No matter what your orientation, ethnicity, lifestyle or background – in both the rave and furry communities we all come together to share a common interest and the love and positive energy with everyone around us!
