Howl Toronto’s Q&A for “The Furclub Survey”, from organizer Raverfox.

by Patch O'Furr

Furclubbing: “A repeat/regular nightclub event by furries for furries.”  It’s a New Thing that’s been spreading since the late 2000’s.

This kind of dance party is independent from cons.  This builds on the growth of cons, and takes things farther.  It’s more established than events that happen once, house parties or informal meets.  Those can be inner-focused, or gather cliquish friends to only seek each other.   This brings partnership with venues that aren’t hotels, and supportive interest in the kind of events they host and promote.  It crosses a line to public space.  A stranger may walk in off the street to discover their new favorite thing.  It encourages new blood and crossover to other scenes.

See the list of parties at The Furclub survey.  Any one that gives a Q&A will get their own article.  Raverfox tells you more about his party…

Howl Toronto (2014 – now)

Howl Toronto is active since summer 2014.

Mission:

For Furries, Suiters, and any other member of all fandom communities in the GTA and abroad, Howl is about giving us a place to come to and cut loose with your friends, your mates and your fandoms. Convention dances are annual events, we want to be a heartbeat throughout the year.

For Furry DJ’s, Howl is about giving those who love electronic dance music a chance to experience that thrill of playing to a crowd of shouting fans and community members. Convention dances happen once a year, and it doesn’t matter what side of the mixing board you’re on, that’s just not enough to fill the need!

Founders, promoters and staff: Dralen, Raverfox, Yennix – and who ever else does facebook promo stuff for us.

DJs:  Rotational residences and furry talent that has an interest and demos for us.

Event type:  Furry Party Night at a club with EDM of all styles.

Price: $5 @ door.  Fursuiters are free.  Coat check (venue) – $5.  Drink prices – standard club prices.

Venue: The Cage (292 College St Toronto Ont). We draw from local furry, pup, and gamer communitites thus far. We have had attendees from the US and Montreal, PQ.

When: Every 3rd Friday of every month. 10pm – 2am. Coming up on our 5th month soon! We were established by the need to fill a gap locally for a fur friendly dance venue due to convention dances happening as infrequently as they do. Dralen and Yennix tossed the idea around with Raver, and Howl was born! Arooooo!

[tweet 498534803139203072 align=center]

Attendance: just under 100/event thus far.

Vibe: 19+, open to anyone over 19 that pays the cover. Mixed age range above said 19 years, and we encourage fursuiting heavily and typically have a decent count of fuzzies bouncing around.

Promotion: mostly social media and word of mouth.

Reception: So far reception has been very positive, with constant growth throughout the summer months. The venue and most of the random non furs we have wander in seem to dig it.

We are not for profit with our goal to be a self sustaining event. Venue costs (drink and coat check etc.) are set by them.

Check out our Facebook and Twitter and FurAffinity for pics and videos of our events!
