Talking with the directors of College Humor’s “Furry Force”
by Patch O'Furr
Interview series: Artists, animation directors, DJ’s and event organizers, superfans, and more…
Furry Force just released it’s second episode. It stars super gross furry heroes, who bring sexy justice to villains like Victor Vivisector. Here’s Rich, the talented animation director at it’s Toronto studio. (It’s written by Brian Murphy and Adam Conover, who says “This video shouldn’t even be legal”.)
Patch:
How fabulous is Furrancis! How did he get abs and a collar in the womb, and what’s his super power? And all the furries want to know- can you make more?
Rich:
Hey I can comment on the animation, but anything involving the character creation/writing is for the writers at College Humor. (We contracted on it).
Patch:
Do you have any fun story from the studio about animating it? And what research did you guys do at the studio? (Hope you didn’t scar your eyeballs.)
Rich:
I found some stuff that made me squeamish for sure, as we explored the style directions on the initial Furry Force. But the creators Adam Conover and Brian Murphy very specifically wanted to riff off of Captain Planet, TMNT (’85) and those 80’s cartoons. We also used Thundercats as inspiration, and then boosted the anatomy and hair in the important areas.
The most shocking and interesting thing for me has been learning that a really good friend of mine is a secret furry, and I have many questions, all of them very typical for furries, I bet.
Patch:
Being secret furry is like being in a fight club 🙂 If you had a fursona what would it be? Did you (or fellow animators) get to know that furries are a “thing” after the job came to you, or earlier? Reddit furries are giving a super positive response. (Adam posted there about his “a non-zero amount of time involved in furry culture.”)
Is there anything you’d say to the furry world, like if they nominated you for the annual furry award for best short- the Ursa Major? Want to share anything else about you or the studio?
Rich:
I’d be a Cheetah because super speed is my bag. Don’t read into that too deeply… I’m going to stop there.
The animators and designers had heard of Furries before this project, but we didn’t know Furries as intimately as we do now. We have learned: The animal sexuality within us, makes us squeamish.
To the Furry community I say: Thanks for all the hugs, we hope to see the Furry Force at a con in the near future!
_______
Adam adds a final comment:
I’d be incredibly honored to be nominated for an Ursa Major award! The furry community knows what they want and what they like, so I’d consider that a real honor as a writer. And yes, I spent my middle- and high-school years immersed in dozens of different online subcultures, and the furry community was one of them! I didn’t stay part of the fandom, but I did enjoy my time hanging around on FurryMUCK in 1998 or so, and everything I learned there informed the script we wrote.
My reddit post was put into an article…
*Prepares face for a Karma shower.*
Hey thanks for sharing it 🙂
Hi! This year’s voting on the Ursa Majors for 2013 is complete, and the winners will be announced at the end of this month at CaliFur. If you want something nominated for next year (i.e. published this year, like your video), get people to check the website on January 15 to find out how to do this. Meanwhile, don’t forget the Recommended List, which is open right now, for people to recommend things they’ve liked that have appeared thus far this year. This is not a nomination, nor required for nomination, but it certainly helps when people are trying to figure out what’s eligible. Your video will be listed with the next update.
I don’t want to sound mean, but I really got offended by CH for this.
Honestly, I am sick of all the hatred against that one side that isn’t even hurting us…
“The animators and designers had heard of Furries before this project, but we didn’t know Furries as intimately as we do now. We have learned: The animal sexuality within us, makes us squeamish.

That is disgusting, and it looks like one of those “The sex is evil…. *Hugs!* ^.^” things.. That does not make a so-called “open-minded” furry community open.
I mean here is truth: There is nothing wrong with the sexuality of it, and you should NOT be ashamed of it, embrace it and learn the real truth that: It is societies crap that causes problems in the first place.
Hey thanks for reading and dropping a note! 🙂 I can tell you there was no harm intended from that comment- how do I know? Can’t say more for professional reasons- sorry. But it was only a personal taste. I don’t have a personal taste for video games, so I won’t spend much time playing them, but I don’t hate you if you do. This guy isn’t going to embrace sexy furries, but he was OK with animating and talking about the animation with me, because he’s a good guy and doesn’t think we’re evil. He didn’t write the story he helped animate.
If you’re still upset, forget the animators and look at the writers of Furry Force. Adam C wrote the story that a lot of furries are laughing at, because it shows knowledge. He spent time with us and he’s a good guy too. It’s not hate, just humor. It’s different with real haters. They don’t have ability to talk to us like people. If you see what they try to do, it’s ignorant, superficial and not funny at all. This story had a good example of that: http://dogpatchpress.wordpress.com/2014/04/23/soul-of-a-troll/
There’s another video on CH, which is something to the effect of ‘That’s Offensive!’. You should check it out…

Exactly, thank you!
Furry force is good. All of the parts seen are very good. People are finally realizing that God spoke the truth when he said : Genesis 1:31:And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. KJV cambridge edition bible.
Good grief, not you again…
Sorry, but this (however well it was executed) is utterly perverse–the parody as well as that which is parodied.
Why WON’T YOU GIVE UP trying to incorporate the furry fandom into Christianity, other than it being deviant and sinful?
Haha, I’m curious who that silly commenter is…
What you see in that harsh comment is another pharisee without their colorful robes.
Purify your perverse mouth. That is scriptural. Christ is his character. Jesus says this: unless you are reborn to be like little children you will in no wise enter into God’s kingdom. Kids walk around in the buff with no problem at all. Furries are likewise not ashamed of that either. I see it in the art in the dealers den. God made a perverse thing? Why do people insist that God is perverse and deviant in what he made?People are being deviant in the way they lie. Your body making shit is in sin. When your tongue is unclean your soul sins.
I hate to quote back Biblical verses like some parroting Pharisee, but you should consider the following as well: (Proverbs 17:28) Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue. And while I think I should stay silent, I just want to append that you cannot just take one line out of a whole text, and rub that in someone’s face. Jesus did say that we should be like little children, but that is irrelevant to the case. It is clearly stated throughout the Bible that both homosexuality and zoophilia are sinful by nature, and this is not because God made them so, but because humanity (you and I) succumbed to this, or more specifically, to Satan. Christianity is a religion of love towards another, yes, but it is also love towards God. Disrespecting His creation by hopping around, humping farm animals, is definitely not a portrayal of love towards our Lord.
I am deeply terrified by the degree to which the Bible’s content can be twisted around and held against its own Gospel (much like Satan did himself, in the New Testament), and I urge you to do some introspection, just as I will fairly consider what you are saying.
I will pray for you, and I sincerely hope you will find the Way back.
Is there a page somewhere to fill in the back story? I’m just making popcorn meanwhile 🙂
Pretty much any furry-related video on Youtube; this guy always spams the whole comment board full of comments stating that Christianity promotes furries, zoophilia and homosexuality, bluntly misusing Bible texts in the process.
The thing is, I’m not saying you are condemned if you are a furry, per se, but it’s definitely not one of the things the Bible approves of.
So yeah, if you watch this very video on Youtube, you’ll find much more amusing shit. At one stage, I think he even posted a guide on properly having sex with dogs, with tables of dog’s shaft lengths and sheath lengths…it’s a pretty scary read, if you’re not psychopathic or delusional.
This is one rabbit hole I don’t want to look down…
Same here; I’d rather just stick to fursuits, thank you very much. :p
Why do people want to have the righteousness of the pharisees? It is a sin to condemn people for doing what you do. What do homosexuals do? What do interspecies people do called zoos or zoosexuals? Can you tell me? It is a three letter word. Does that help? I thought Satan was the accuser of the brethren? One has to love God in another human being. The following verses has God wanting to manifest that we are a beast and having no preeminence above a beast. People are to seek peace ensuing it, But people are doing exactly the opposite.
Ecclesiastes 3:18-20King James Version (KJV)
18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
I have said all that I wanted to say, and while going through other comments of yours, I realized you are probably not even Christian at all, so I think we’re both just defending two different faiths here. If it is so that you are a Christian, I am really troubled by your obsession or almost idolatry of beasts over God, and once again, I hope that you will find your wisdom in God, and not in your own convictions.
I would conclude with something that is not a Biblical verse, but it has made me think a lot (and I think it really applies in this situation:)
“What use is there in praying, if you only hear what you want to hear?”
Think about that for a minute.
God bless you!
Psalms 37:37.Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. Cambridge edition bible. Be perfect seeking peace with all of people I defend who are perfect having their end being peace.
I am sure you have read, heard and seen what is good for you, and woe is you if you never find out what to do with it. Despite my humour to give up with the notion of “this guy isn’t listening, anyway,” I feel obligated to stress, from another Christian’s perspective, how misleading you are to onlookers. I’d be very respectful of whatever theriocratic, anarchistic religion it is you follow, were it not for the fact that you label said theism as Christianity. I will defend mine, and ask you, once again, to stop commenting pre-programmed Bible verses and misguided wisdom.
I have just begun. Christians are supposed to keep God’s word, Right? 1 Thessalonians 4:11. And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
What do people do to people I defend? They break it. Romans 13:10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. That is broken too. Humble yourself before the Lord that is in me. I am not connected to any earthy religious name at all.
Look, I truly agree in ‘loving thy neighbour’, but I bet that even you cannot find one verse in the Bible that says ‘love/accept/care for/like/revere/cherish sin’. I mean, it’s wonderful and all that to throw around religious texts without explaining what you’re trying to say, but even that has its limits when that which you are trying to defend, does not agree with you. Hmm?
The body is in sin. Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. Romans 13:10Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Psalms 37:37.Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. KJV Cambridge edition. Peace needs to be given to those I defend. The people I defend are perfect.Their end is peace.
While I usually hate to interfere with these matters, I’m afraid I must agree with Takuma-san. God made the human to watch over the animals, not to have sex with them, please do keep that in mind.
God did not want people condemning people for doing what they do. I say that, but it goes in one ear out the other. Working good is not saying I condemn you for doing what I do. Romans 2 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
2 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? 4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? 5 but after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God; 6 who will render to every man according to his deeds: 7 to them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 8 but unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10 but glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11 for there is no respect of persons with God.

It seems Furry Force has won an Ursa Major Award! Congratz to CollegeHumor 😀
Yay!! I have some followup content to post, too… Got big appreciation from the directors.
